Brides have always worn white as a symbol of purity and happiness. For centuries the idea that a bride should wear white or ivory has gone unquestioned and unchallenged. Some old fashioned brides even consider it taboo to wear color accents such as a colored sachet. As the years go by however, color is becoming increasingly more prominent in bridal fashion shows and magazines. For the modern bride, color is the new way to express their happiness, style, and personality. By adding color to their gown, it allows the bride to bring their own unique touch to their wedding.
As Jenifer Gay mentions in her article Colorful Wedding Gown Options, the color infused bridal gown has begun to gain popularity over the last few years with bold colors like red and blue being among the most popular. Many brides choose red to symbolize their love while others choose blue to symbolize lifelong devotion and fidelity. One of the up and coming trends for 2008 according to Nina Callaway is to wear yellow for a feel of energy or wear Silvery metalics for a sure way to stand out and be remembered.

Whether to stand out or express themselves, colorful gowns are a brilliant way to add a modern spin on a traditional gown. Do you think gowns of vibrant colors are best for a unique look, or do you believe that only a splash of color is needed to pull off this fresh new look?

Personally, I’d have to say I’m a fan of the traditional white. There’s just some kind of gap, I visualize, between a colored gown and a wedding gown.
A small bit of color, in a bracelet or necklace, or inside of folds, to bring the eyes to a certain point would really do the trick, though.
